ABSTRACT

AIM: To investigate the changes of morphology and function of meibomian glands in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and its influence on the tear film. METHODS: A total of 52 patients(104 eyes)with type 2 diabetes mellitus who came to our hospital from January 2018 to January 2020 were selected. Then they were divided into non-diabetic retinopathy group(NDR group, 31 cases with 62 eyes)and diabetic retinopathy group(DR group, 21 cases with 42 eyes)according to the fundus changes. While 38 cases(76 eyes)of diabetic-free cataract patients who treated at the same time were selected as the control group. The differences of three groups were compared with the morphology and the scores of the function of lid edge and meibomian glands, the scores of fluorescence staining of cornea, break-up time(BUT)of tear film, lipid layer thickness(LLT), blink times(BT)and partial blink rate(PBR).RESULTS: The morphology and the scores of function of lid edge and meibomian glands, the scores of fluorescence staining of cornea were significantly higher than the control group, and the DR group was significantly higher than the NDR group(all P<0.05). The BUT in the DR group and NDR group was significantly lower than that in the control group, and the DR group was significantly lower than that in the NDR group(all P<0.05). There were differences in LLT, BT and PBR among the three groups(P<0.05). The LLT and BT in the DR group and NDR group were significantly lower than those in the control group, and PBR was significantly higher than that in control group(all P<0.05), but there was no significant difference between the DR group and the NDR group(all P>0.05). Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with morphology abnormalities of meibomian gland have a higher incidence of abnormal tear film function.CONCLUSION: Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus are prone to shortening and loss of meibomian glands, which is easy to cause the dysfunction of the meibomian gland and decrease the stability of the tear film. While the patients with DR, the morphology abnormalities and dysfunction of the meibomian glands are more pronounced, and the stability of the tear film is worse.

ABSTRACT

AIM:To investigate the influence of K-115 on the proliferation and migration of human Tenon's fibroblasts(HTFs)and to access the possible mechanism. Furthermore, to provide new ideas for anti-scar treatment after glaucoma surgery.METHODS: The Tenon capsule tissues were collected from patients who underwent glaucoma surgery in Hebei General Hospital from September 2018 to September 2019. Primary culture of HTFs was performed by tissue block method. The transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1)was used to induce HTFs activation that can mimic glaucoma filtration surgery. The cells were treated with K-115 and divided into 4 groups: the control group was treated with dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO); TGF-β1 group was treated with 10μg/L TGF-β1 for 24h; TGF-β1 +5 K-115 group was pretreated with 5μmol/L K-115 for 2h and then treated with 10μg/L TGF-β1 for 24h; TGF-β1+10 K-115 group was pretreated with 10μmol/L K-115 for 2h and then 10μg/L TGF-β1 was added for 24h. Cell proliferation was observed by cell proliferation experiment. The migration ability of cells was detected by scratch test. The formation of autophagosomes was observed by transmission electron microscopy. Apoptosis was visualized by Hoechst 33342/PI staining.RESULTS: Cell proliferation experiment revealed that K-115 could inhibit the proliferation of HTFs induced by TGF-β1. Scratch test suggested that K-115 could inhibit the migration of HTFs induced by TGF-β1. Transmission electron microscope results showed that K-115 could enhance autophagy of HTFs induced by TGF-β1. Hoechst 33342/PI staining suggested that K-115 did not induce apoptosis.CONCLUSIONS: K-115 may regulate the proliferation and migration of HTFs induced by TGF-β1 by increasing autophagy rather than inducing apoptosis.

ABSTRACT

@#AIM:To investigate the characteristic changes of ocular surface and meibomian gland function after strabismus in adolescents and analyze the related influencing factors.<p>METHODS:Retrospective study. Totally 168 cases(224 eyes)with strabismus surgery in our hospital from January 2019 to December 2019 were selected as the study objects. According to the surgical incision, all patients were divided into the limbal incision group(group A, 54 cases, 78 eyes), trans-muscular terminal-incision group(group B, 48 cases, 62 eyes), and near-fornix incision group(group C, 66 cases, 84 eyes). Based on the number of muscles involved in the operation, patients were divided into single extraocular muscle group(68 eyes), the double extraocular muscle group(106 eyes)and three extraocular muscle group(50 eyes). The children's eye surface health were evaluated. Other eye index such as lipidlayer thickness(LLT), tear meniscus height(TMH), corneal fluorescence staining score(CFSS), tear film break up time(TBUT), tear secretion(SⅠt), and meibomial gland opening were analyzed by Lipiview eye surface interferometer.<p>RESULTS:The eye surface and meibomian gland function presented no significant difference in groups after surgery 1wk. Postoperative 1mo, ocular surface and muscle operating meibomian gland function were improved significantly(<i>P</i><0.05), which TBUT in group B was obviously higher than that of group A(<i>P</i><0.05), and OSDI, CFSS, TBUT in group C were significantly better than that of group A(<i>P</i><0.05). TMH of children in two groups was significantly higher than that of a single group(<i>P</i><0.05), three children OSDI is higher than a single extraocular muscle group(<i>P</i><0.05). Three month after surgery, the children with ocular surface and meibomian gland function were compared with postoperative 1wk and 1mo improved significantly(<i>P</i><0.05). Among them, the OSDI, LLT, TMH, CFSS, TBUT and SⅠt of children in C group were significantly better than that of group A(<i>P</i><0.05). And TMH, CFSS, SⅠt and meibomian gland orifices in other two groups were better than that of group A(<i>P</i><0.05), double extraocular muscle group and three extraocular muscle group of children with meibomian gland orifices were lower than single extraocular muscle group(<i>P</i><0.05). OSDI, CFSS and meibomian gland orifices score of children had significantly correlation with the surgery involving muscle number(<i>P</i><0.05).<p>CONCLUSION:Ocular surface and meibomian gland function recovery of children in the fornix incision group were better than that of corneal limbus incision group and across muscle check incision. The ocular surface and meibomian gland function recovery of children with single set were also better than that of children with two and three. Thus, taking nearly fornix incision and decreasing the number of the surgery involving the muscles was helpful to ocular surface and meibomian gland function recovery in the youth eye strabismus surgery.

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the relation between ~(99)Tc~m-DTPA renal dynamic imaging and pathological changes in patients with lupus nephritis (LN).Methods Ten normal control and 29 patients with LN underwent ~(99)Tc~m-DTPA renal dynamic imaging. The LN patients were divided into two groups:silent LN (SLN) group,18 patients;and obvious LN (OLN) group,11 patients. For each case, glomerular filtration rate (GFR),peak time (t_p),half excretion time (t_(1/2)) and the excretion rate at 20 min (R_(20)) were calculated.Assessment of renal function on the scintigraphic images was evaluated by nuclear medicine physicians. The t-test,Fisher'exact probability and R×C association were used for data analysis. Results There were significant differences between normal people and two goups of LN in tp(t=5.3,9.3,both P<0.05),t_(1/2)(t=6.9,12.0,both P<0.05)and R_(20)(t=10.1,12.1,both P<0.05).As to GFR,there was significant decrease in OLN patients(t=4.1,P<0.05),but not in SLN patients(t=1.7,P>0.05).Diagnoses of renal function by renal dynamic imaging were compared with the renal pathological changes (r=0.2273,P<0.05).Conclusions ~(99)Tc~m-DTPA renal dynamic imaging is useful for evaluation of the early stage renal function for LN patients and to diagnose LN patients with no symptom of renal impairment. It may help to assess the degree of renal parenchymal damage while obviating the need for renal biopsy in these patients.
